SOLVE FSHD, a venture philanthropic organization established to catalyze innovation in Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) research, is partnering with the nonprofit organization XPRIZE Foundation to host a global competition to remove barriers and accelerate development of novel therapies for FSHD.
XPRIZE Healthspan is a 7-year global competition, with a $111-million total prize purse distributed across a Healthspan prize ($101M) and FSHD Bonus Prize ($10M), slated to conclude in 2030. The winning team of the $10M FSHD Bonus Purse must demonstrate that their therapeutic solution substantially improves FSHD-relevant muscle outcomes based on: 1) fat infiltration in muscle via any imaging modality or change in a relevant FSHD biomarker, and 2) corresponding improvement of muscle function, compared with controls. The therapeutic treatment must take less than 1 year.
