My name is Brittany Lauro. I’m a 29-year-old military spouse living in Northern California, formally diagnosed with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) at the age of 14. Dance has always been my first artistic language, with training in hip-hop, lyrical, and jazz. Losing aspects of that physical expression due to FSHD reshaped my relationship with art, but it never diminished my connection to creativity or storytelling.
Living with FSHD requires constant adaptation in a world not always designed with disability in mind, which has deepened my appreciation for art as both communication and advocacy. Throughout my twenties, I’ve worked in marketing, communications, and public affairs within the Air Force, developing skills in visual design, branding, graphic design, and documenting meaningful moments. I’m honored to serve on the FSHD Society T-shirt judging committee and grateful to be part of a creative community using art to raise awareness, inspire connection, and move us closer to a cure.
Kathy is a retired educator who has served as the director of the FSHD New England Chapter since 2017. She is deeply committed to supporting the ongoing search for effective treatments for FSHD, consistently advocating for increased awareness and research efforts. Raised in a small town in Vermont within a creative household, Kathy developed a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Her experiences span a wide variety of artistic forms, including fiber arts, pottery, and watercolor, to name a few. This diverse exposure has shaped her passion for creativity and artistic expression. The FSHD community is home to talented and gifted individuals, and a well-designed, creative t-shirt will celebrate the diversity of this international community and also serve to promote greater awareness of FSHD.
Kenna is a graphic designer based in Fort Worth, Texas, who has spent several years creating visual storytelling within the non-profit arts sector in DFW. She currently works at a performance theatre, where she gets to be part of the magic of live theatre and the vibrant audiences and artists who make it possible. She has a special love for illustration and clever, thoughtful print design. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and biggest supporter, Kyler, and their mischievous (and perfect) dog and cat, Ellie and Astro.
Diagnosed with FSHD in 2023, Kenna is passionate about giving back to and supporting the FSHD community in any way she can. She enjoys being involved in efforts that make a positive impact and is continually inspired by the creativity, resilience, and heart of those within the community.
