“FSHD is always attacking me… it never takes a day off.
I practice qigong and kung fu daily. It’s my way to fight back.” -FH
In the December “Feeling Fit” sessions, Frank Hanley will introduce several qigong exercises to help strengthen the immune system and improve qi flow. These exercises build on the abdominal breathing exercises that Frank introduced in September, and reviewed during the November session. He will also review the neck, shoulder and abdominal (core) exercises that he presented in previous sessions.
Did you try these exercises from his session earlier this month? Come and share your experience and ask questions!
Frank Hanley is a martial artist, author, and teacher of Hung Ga style Kung Fu, Taijiquan and multiple Qigong styles and practices. He organized and launched the FSHD Society South Carolina Chapter and served as Chapter Director.
This monthly series is for people living with FSHD who are interested in exercise and fitness. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 12:00 pm (noon) U.S. Eastern Time. Come dressed for exercise and have on hand any safety and assistive devices you need. Not every exercise is appropriate or safe for every individual, so please use your best judgement and consult your health care provider.
We recommend a stable chair or stool (back of chair is optional), as all of the exercises are designed to be done form a seated position. You can also choose to bring light weights ranging from 1lb to 5lb.
