Remembering Howard Chabner

by Mark Stone

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Howard Chabner, our Board Vice Chair and a longtime supporter of the FSHD Society, has passed away.

Howard was many things to this organization: a tireless advocate; a passionate activist; a steady leader; and a generous supporter of our mission. He believed deeply in the FSHD community and gave so much of himself to ensure that the voices of individuals and families living with FSHD were heard, respected, and supported. His commitment never wavered and his impact on this organization will endure.

He brought kindness, thoughtfulness, and sincerity to every conversation. He cared deeply about the people behind the work, and he showed up not just as a leader, but as a human being. While Howard was all of these things and more to the FSHD community, to me, he was a friend. I am profoundly grateful for the friendship we shared, the memories that are exclusively mine, and the privilege of knowing him. I will miss his wisdom, his insight, and his heart.

Please join me in holding Howard’s family and loved ones close in your thoughts. We will share more in the days ahead about how we can honor his life and legacy together.
