The Bay Area chapter of the FSHD Society is a local group of people, families, and advocates working together to support those living with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). Whether you join us in person or virtually, our chapter offers a place to connect with others who understand what you’re going through.
Sam Feldman was diagnosed with FSHD1 in 2019 at age 33, though his symptoms (and occasional searches for answers) began in childhood. He has recently become more involved with the FSHD Society and is encouraged to find a sense of community that comes with support and connection to people who understand.
Sam focuses on staying active when possible and adapting as his condition changes. He’s grateful to meet others navigating similar challenges and hopes to help build a welcoming, informed, supportive space for people living with FSHD and those who care for them.
Outside of FSHD advocacy, Sam works in public service as the Manager of Budget for the East Bay Municipal Utility District and is active in his local community in Emeryville. He brings the same dedication to the FSHD community: showing up, staying hopeful, and reminding others that none of us go through this alone.
Contact Sam directly or visit the Bay Area Facebook page.
