Dear Colleagues,

The 2013 FSH Society FSHD International Research Consortium workshop will be held on Monday & Tuesday, October 21-22, 2013, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Tentatively, Monday will be a full workshop day and Tuesday will be a two-thirds day of research planning efforts. The organizers will be finalizing the draft plan for the workshop in the coming weeks. The meetings will be held prior to the opening of the American Society for Human Genetics (ASHG) in Boston, Massachusetts.

Prof. David E. Housman, Chairman, FSH Society Scientific Advisory Board has graciously offered to host the meeting at the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Co-chairs for the meeting will be David Housman, Ph.D., Stephen Tapscott, M.D., Ph.D. (Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, Washington) and Silvère van der Maarel, Ph.D. (Leiden University Medical Center and Fields Center for FSHD, Leiden, the Netherlands). Daniel Perez, President & CEO of the FSH Society, Lexington, Massachusetts will serve as organizational chair.

Early registration deadline: Friday, October 11, 2013
Late registration deadline: Wednesday, October 16, 2013
Abstracts due by: Friday, September 20, 2013
Assignments for Poster/Presentation made by: Friday, September 27, 2013

Please send abstracts by Friday, September 20, 2013. Abstracts should be sent to all four organizers e.g. Daniel Paul Perez, David Housman, Stephen Tapscott and, Silvere van der Maarel (daniel.perez@fshdsociety.org, dhousman@mit.edu, stapscot@fhcrc.org, maarel@lumc.nl). Kindly indicate if you have a preference for a poster or a talk.

There is no fee for the meeting but please register by e-mail with names of people attending from your lab/institution to both Daniel Paul Perez and David Housman, (daniel.perez@fshdsociety.org and dhousman@mit.edu). A light breakfast and a lunch will be served both days.

NOTE!!! Attendees need to make their own arrangements for travel and lodging. Please understand that the weekend of October 19-20 is The Head Of The Charles Regatta [the world’s best crew teams gather for the ultimate two-day rowing competition]. So please reserve a hotel room early by calling hotels directly or using the e-mail reservation address listed below.

Attendees of the ASHG meeting should book their hotel/guest room through the ASHG http://www.ashg.org/2013meeting/pages/hotel.shtml to get ASHG block rates. ASHG’s early registration deadline is Thursday, September 5, 2013. You do not have to be registered with ASHG to attend the FSHD IRC meeting.

The FSH Society also recommends several hotels nearby for those wanting to be in the Cambridge Kendall Square area. The meeting will be at MIT which is across the Charles River from the ASHG convention center. The three closest hotels are:

  • Residence Inn [Marriott] Boston Cambridge
  • Boston Marriott Cambridge
  • The Kendall

We expect this year’s meeting will be one of the best yet! Please pass this invitation on to colleagues and students that may have an active interest in FSHD. Space is limited to 100 please reserve early.
