Despite all of it's challenges, the 2020 Walk & Roll was a huge success!
The Walk & Roll to Cure FSHD is the only national event focused solely on funding progress for FSHD. Led entirely by dedicated volunteers, supported by staff, events take place all over the US and Canada.
Since it began with just a handful of events in 2018, participating in a Walk & Roll has been a life-changing event. It has united families, friends, neighbors, and local businesses to forge powerful connections and strengthen our families and our community.
We would not let anything 2020 threw at us stop us.
When the pandemic hit, then stayed, we had to make some changes. FSHD doesn't stop, so neither do we. Volunteer leaders from coast to coast came together to coordinate a first-ever national virtual event, celebrated in local chapters across the nation and collectively on September 12, 2020.
- $520,000 raised for FSHD!
- 822 participants and 147 teams; 20 sponsors
- Nearly 3,600 people were a part of the effort; participating, donating, or both. Gifts as little as $5 and as large as $10,000!
- Our Facebook Livestream (now available on YouTube) reached 6,000+ people and had 1,700 engagements.
Now, we're gearing up for 2021!
We are hard at work making plans for the Walk & Roll 2021, coming to a location near you in September.
are just a few things you can look forward to!
National Celebration Livestream with FSHD Radio
Once again, our FSHD Radio podcast host, Tim Hollenback, will hold a 4 hour, coast to coast, Walk & Roll celebration livestream. Walkers and Rollers will check in live from Florida to California and all points in between. We will recognize teams and top fundraisers, share personal stories, and come together, one voice that is thousands strong, to say FSHD does not get the final word. We will keep walking and rolling until a cure is found!
Team Captain Rally
To celebrate and honor our team captains, who put in the extra time and effort to rally their family and friends for FSHD! We'll come together on Zoom, team captains from coast to coast, to celebrate our best and brightest and pack your team captain toolkit for even greater success in 2021!
Stay tuned for more...
Participate in the way that works best for you!
Different parts of the country will be in different stages of a post-Covid world. Most events will have an in-person option, but some may be all virtual. Perhaps you want to participate, but live far from the event site? Maybe you are a morning person and want to walk/roll at 7am?! Whatever you are most comfortable with, there is a way for you to join this incredible effort!
We are excited to welcome back Max Adler, best known for his roles on Glee or Switched at Birth, as our Walk & Roll to Cure FSHD National Ambassador
"I watched my Mom and Grandma struggle with this disease, and I don’t want that to happen to anyone, anywhere, ever again. Searching to find a treatment and cure led me to the FSHD Society, the world’s largest research-focused patient organization for FSHD."
